The August meeting of the Charlotte Koi Club will take place on the farm and home of Tony and Lori Vertin. Because it’s very hot this time of the year the meeting will begin at 9:30 AM, August 12, 2023. It’s about 42 minutes northwest of Charlotte International Airport. The address is 3145 Sally Lane, Maiden, NC 28650. This will be the unveiling of their brand new koi pond. You can check out the process at https://carolinakoilady.com.
Most of you will be coming up Highway 16 (north). Make a left turn on Providence Mill Road. There is a Dollar General on the northwest corner.
Sally Lane is a gravel road. Turn left onto Sally Lane from Bud Arndt Road. A gravel road is just past the mailboxes. You will travel 1/2 mile on the gravel road. The entrance to the property is through a gate and there will be a koi flag there so you will know you are at the right place. Parking will be designated. You might want to consider carpooling. This is an excellent opportunity to see another newly installed pond. For members living on the north side of Charlotte this should be an especially convenient meeting for you to attend.
There will be two pop-up tents up for shade and it is recommended everyone bring a chair. Water will be provided along with fruit and something savory to eat. If you would like to bring something sweet to share, that would be great.
- If you want to explore the woods on the property, you should bring appropriate shoes and long pants - you can take your chances with shorts but there are plenty of plants that will get you itching!
- There are piles of cut firewood you can take with you but be advised to bring some gloves to use to move. There is more firewood that can be cut with the owner's permission.
