The last few weeks have felt like August! Here are some reminders for higher temperatures:
- Give your finned friends some shade.
- Change water more frequently.
- Add some aeration, oxygen levels are lower in hot water. While plants do produce oxygen, they also compete with the koi for oxygen at night.
- Don’t overfeed your koi.
- Make sure your water is not stagnant, keep it moving.
- Finally, summer storms can knock out power. A generator to run the air for the pond is a good idea during outages.
Next CKC Meeting: Our next meeting is “Pizza Party by the Pond” July 13, 2024, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. Check your newsletter for the address. The meeting will be held at the home of Bradley Blocksom’s father, David, owner of Pondscapes of Charlotte. Please bring something to share that goes with pizza. David will be talking about his pond and some cleaning/maintenance tips.
Bonus Activity: We also have an additional event that Charlotte Koi Club members are invited to attend. Members of the ZNA Carolina club (an online koi club, host of the koi show in Raleigh each year) will be gathering at the home of Steve and Sandy Zimmerman in Valdese on July 27, 2024. Time and address of this event is in the interview article with Steve Zimmerman. It’s a great opportunity to see how champion koi are raised!
A big Thank You to Gary Chesson and Terry McClain for their newsletter articles. If you do not receive the CKC monthly newsletter, make sure you have a current membership with the Charlotte Koi Club. Membership is only $20 per year. You can find out more here: https://charlottekoiclub.com/join/
Stay cool everyone!
