“Spring is nature’s way of saying, ‘Let’s party!'” – Robin Williams

We are definitely out of winter, almost through the yellow pollen haze and on our way to warmer temperatures. I’m sure many of you have been enjoying Japanese maples and all the early blooming spring plants. Spring is the perfect time to give your pond some TLC after the winter months. Start by cleaning out debris like fallen leaves and twigs to keep the water clear and healthy. Check your pond’s equipment, such as pumps and filters, to ensure they’re working properly. It’s also a great time to trim back any overgrown plants and replant or add new aquatic plants to enhance the pond’s beauty and ecosystem. Test the water quality and make any necessary adjustments to maintain a balanced environment for fish and plants. Finally, monitor fish health and consider adding new fish to your pond. With these tasks, you’ll set the stage for a vibrant and thriving pond throughout the warmer months.

We had a little hiccup and the 5th Annual Spring Fling was cancelled. However, we are still going to have the CKC members’ raffle for some FREE high quality Japanese tosai. The club has purchased these tosai and we will be raffling off the order of selection. Over the next few months we are hoping that new owners will take a photo or two of their koi as it develops to share with club members. Vice President, Felicia and I hope to visit/photograph your tosai in September/October. We will have some prizes related to development at the November CKC meeting.

Remember – the Japanese tosai raffle is for any CKC member in good standing — meaning you have paid your 2025 dues. Dues are only $20 per family and you can renew by logging on to the CKC website. Under “MyProfile” the website will automatically note if you are a current member. If you are not current there is a block to click and pay online. Thanks for renewing!

So mark your calendar and we will see you on Saturday, May 10, 2025, 10:30 am at Felicia Santos and Carl Brinkman’s home, 12114 Darby Chase Drive, Charlotte, NC 28277.
