Let’s hope the really cold temperatures we have been experiencing in January are the last of winter! Cold weather is challenging because it stresses out the koi and their owners. To prolong our stress, as the water temperatures start to warm up, our ponds enter Aeromonas Alley (40° – 60°F) where aeromonas and pseudomonas bacteria become opportunistic and immune compromised koi may be subject to ulcers, fin rot, and mouth rot. There are a number of actions we can take to keep our pond healthy – plan to attend the March club meeting where this will be one of the topics of discussion.
Speaking about the March meeting, it will be held at Pond Country in Mooresville on Saturday, March 9, 2024. Meeting time and address will be announced in the next newsletter, on our website events page, and on our Facebook page. Thank you to all meeting hosts who have volunteered their home/pond for a 2024 meeting. We still need hosts for the October and November meetings. If you are able to host, please contact Felicia Santos.
It won’t be long until we can be out working on our gardens and ponds in +50°F weather!
REMINDER: The February club meeting is a ZOOM Videoconference. An email with the ZOOM link will sent out on Monday, February 5. The link is also in the February club newsletter.
